Seoul and springtime on the Yellow Sea

Cherry Blossoms in early Spring

Thomas

Thomas took me to see this cherry blossom-lined street one morning before work. These capricious flowering trees are hard to catch in full bloom. So happy to have caught them during my Springtime in Korea.

Seoul in Springtime

At the Steve McCurry photo exhibit in Seoul, an incredible collection of photographs. McCurry is a phenomenal photojournalist. Camera in hand, he steps into moments, watches and walks away, leaving his subjects and their world untouched, taking with him an exposure of his experience. This is one of the greatest things I've seen in Korea.

Lunch

On the way to Incheon Airport. The two boys across from me were watching a video. The couple reflected in the window were dozing off. The man continued to ask his wife, "Do you still love me?..do you still love me?" "yes...yes..." she would say.

Tamna was the original name of Jeju Island.

My new friend and my taxi driver for the day. I'm learning a lot about communication.

I talked very little with this him, using only a few Korean words and phrases that I've learned. But it was enough, along with smiles and gestures and sincere gratitude, to make him warm to me. And of course he loved Mom and Betsy, the two giggling girls in the backseat.

Not only did he take us to the places we had decided on, but he brought us to one of his favorite spots on the island, suggested a great restaurant that serves a special kind of pork and fish native to Jeju, and he stopped off at a roadside stand to buy us traditional Korean bread. I'll never forget his smile.

Jeonju, Daedunsan and Easter weekend

Nathene invited me to spend a weekend in Jeonju with her friend, Eric. There wasn't time to see much of the city, but that first night we walked through Hanok Village, an area that celebrates Korean art, crafts and food.
This drunken man was screaming to us in English from across the street. He shared his makgeolli, Korean rice wine, with Eric. So generous, this man.

Foreigner soccer team in Jeonju. I love tracing this line of players, their limbs flailing freely. So goofy.

I found a great hand model in Korea. These flowers were strikingly blue.

Sisters
They have a younger sister, who was sitting one bench over. Their dad caught up with me later in the day. He asked me where I'm from and what I think of his country. I told him it's so beautiful and he thanked me with a wide smile.
